http://www.painandpalliativecare.org/ ---- yellowpagesindia's new client

The Pain & Palliative Care Society, Kozhikode is a charitable organization for people with incurable diseases and those
in chronic pain. Started in 1993 as a registered society, it has been a WHO Demonstration Project in palliative care for the developing world since 1996.

What is palliative care?
'Palliative Care', also called 'comfort care', is primarily directed at providing relief to a person having incurable illness through symptom management and pain management. The goal is not to cure, but to provide comfort and maintain the highest possible quality of life for as long as life remains. Well-rounded palliative care programs also address mental health and spiritual needs.

The focus is not on death, but on compassionate specialized care for the living. Palliative care is well suited to an interdisciplinary team model that provides support for the whole person and those who are sharing the person's journey in love.
For most patients, physical pain is only one of several symptoms. Relief of pain should therefore be seen as part of a comprehensive pattern of care encompassing the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of suffering. Physical aspects of pain cannot be treated in isolation from other aspects, nor can patients' anxieties be effectively addressed when patients are suffering physically. The various components must be addressed simultaneously.

The World Health Organisation defines palliative care as "the active total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. Control of pain, of other symptoms, and of psychological, social and spiritual problems, is paramount. The goal of Palliative Care is achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families."

Origins
The origins of Malayali weavers has not been studied extensively. Malayali weavers are generally believed to be descendents of Tamil/Telugu/Kannada weavers migrating at various points of history. Therefore, the origins of Malayali weavers is closely connected to weavers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. However, Sali or Chaliyan weavers have completely adopted Malayali traditions over time(except for later migrants like Saliyar of Balaramapuram). Since the origin of Chaliyans is so intricately connected to other South Indian weavers a brief description of South Indian weavers is given in this article.
Edanga and Valanga
The right hand (Balanga) and left hand (Edanga) divisions are unique to South India and mostly observed in Tamil and Telugu regions in the past. There is no clear cut definition for these divisions. These divisions mostly determined ritual privileges with right hand castes generally clamining higher position over left hand castes. And there were incidences of Edangas upgrading themselves to Balangas.
Migrations
The Saliya migrations need not be in a mass scale. Individual families would migrate and take refuge with local chieftains or with rich families. When the numbers of Saliya families increase in a particular area they would then form their own settlements which were called Teru. The region encompassing a Teru and a main community temple was called Nagara.

We are a nonprofit organization working in Bakrour ( Sujata Village ) in Bodhgaya, Bihar, one of the poorest areas of India . Gautam Buddh Free Education Center was created to provide free education in English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Sanskrit and Social Studies to the children of poor families. These children are of lower caste families without money to pay for their education. During the monsoon and winter seasons we have many problems. The rain and cold weather create much difficulty for the children and teachers, especially since we currently hold classes on the porch of an abandoned government building. We set up our school to serve four villages in an area where no government organization currently exists. In these villages, the standard of living is very low. Many people still live in houses made of mud and dating as far back as medieval times. The children from such families remain naked throughout the year due to lack of proper clothes. Therefore, we concentrate our work mainly on these areas which are totally neglected otherwise. Classes for grades1 to 5 are held from 06:00 am to 09:30 am on Monday to Saturday, after which both teachers and pupils go off to work. Interested parties are invited to visit the school any day, but come early! We are located just outside (2 km) of Bodhgaya.

Kerala has a tradition in the field of painting as is evidenced by the murals in temples, palaces and churches. The murals of Tirunandikkara (now in Kanyakumari district) and Tiruvanchikulam are reckoned as the earliest specimens of Kerala painting. These have been assigned to the period from the 9th to the 12th century A.D. Most of the murals now seen in Kerala temples belong to the period from 15th century onwards.

The cat that's not a cat! We met him on Sunday afternoon in a third floor apartment of a building in Bur Dubai. We are told not to call him a cat. Cutie Boy does not like being called a cat. And Cutie Boy can not only count his chickens but also yours.
He can give answers to queries but in keeping with the times, he prefers multiple choices to the old-fashioned 'one-question, one-answer' sort.
Far as nationality goes, Cutie Boy is Persian, an expat in Dubai. Has been for almost seven years. Indian housewife and self-confessed researcher on cat-behaviour Hema Chandra bought her from a pet-shop in Satwa in 1998.
To her surprise, Cutie Boy didn't want to play kitten with her — no kittie-kittie smoochings, no cuddling and cooing... "He was different. I know cats. I grew up with them. I realised Cutie Boy was not the same as other cats. He was almost human..." At least human enough to know the ceiling from the floor. One of his first forays in impressing human beings was by identifying the ceiling fan whenever the words 'ceiling' and 'fan' were uttered together. Cutie Boy made heads turn by turning his head up, towards ceiling fans in apartments all over Dubai, mesmerising people in Karama, Bur Dubai and Satwa.
If that wasn't genius, there was more to come which pointed to the Einstein in this cat ..oops Cutie Boy! Next step was to say 'no' and 'yes' to questions, the 'saying' done by way of rocking the head back and forward, and by way of 'kisses' to Hema's cheek. By then word had gone out. About "this wonder cat in Dubai". The world media picked up stories. Cutie Boy featured in Animal Fair - "'Cat that Counts - Page 40'". Other reports appeared in other publications on Cutie Boy, about how he can identify body parts and colours, even take orders (like a dog!). Tell him 'go into the living room' and would slink into the living room, head held high!
"I've taught him numbers up to 20," says Hema. But when tested in higher mathematics, Cutie Boy impressed even high school principals and teachers. Sahadevan Panicker, a mathematician at the Gulf Modern School, has given Cutie Boy his certificate of approval. He says Cutie Boy is "extraordinary" and that he certainly has some "peculiar gift" with Math. "I tested him in algebra, geometry, Pythagorean and square roots, and he was right every time."
Forget mathematics, Cutie Boy even knows the chemical formula of sulphuric acid! Also what is blue vitriol? "I'm wonderstruck," writes a round-eyed Mrs Mini, a chemistry teacher.
Oh! By the way, Cutie Boy — who unlike other cats doesn't drink milk — is a linguist, too! He knows about eight languages among them Gujarati, Persian (his mother-tongue), Malayalam (Hema's mother tongue), English (he was born in the UK), Arabic (now that he is living in the UAE) and French (Ou est la lampe Cuty Boy). Formidable, is how Nimy Gopinath, French teacher, Indian High School, Sultanate of Oman, describes Cutie Boy. "I never expected this ...he can understand French very well." Enchante!
Unfortunately, Cutie Boy is not his "usual self" on Sunday afternoon. If at all he is even more reclusive than reputed to be, his disdain for human beings (other than Hema and family) complete, and total. Finally, when he does condescend to come out of 'hiding' he does that with a marked reluctance. So much so, when it comes to answering the usual lot of questions which is his usual lot whenever strangers troop in, Cutie Boy pulls back his head and rolls his cat-eyes, his way of saying 'No'. "Are you scared of them?" asks Hema, and Cutie Boy — the intelligent cat who does not like to called a cat — answers with a kiss to her cheek, his way of saying 'Yes'
To many people Cutie Boy gives the impression of being the laziest cat in town, if not in the world. He does not like other cats. Is not friendly with dogs. His only friend, if he has any, is a parrot called Meenu. Surprisingly, so far, Cutie Boy has not made Meenu part of his menu. Evenings, the parrot chatters and Cutie Boy seemingly lends her an ear, interested or disinterested nobody knows, and allows Meenu to sit next to him while he ponders the world around him.
For all that, photographer ILS Hameed is not impressed. He refuses to play cat and mouse with a cat who does not like to be called a cat. So Hameed clicks Cutie Boy and it turns out ...Cutie Boy is a cat! Picture-purrfect! Then again, for all we know, Cutie Boy might be out of this world, a Martian in disguise or from some planet that's not even in the Milky Way, where cats rule and man meows!

Yellowpagesindia.info added aneww client http://www.thuluvannurtemple.com/ .

Description about the site :

Nature sometimes performs miracles which fortify man's faith. One such miracle occured in a ruined and long-forsaken temple of Lord Mahavishnu at Thuluvannur, about 1.5 Kms north-west of Payyanur town in north Kerala. The temple which was renovated few yars ago was in a state of mystery, appeared to be hiding a divine presence. Once Thuluvannur was the southern border of 'Thulunadu' and was a famous example for the Kerala - Thulu culture. The new generation had no idea of its history, yet they were aware of its sanctity. It was the custom of the traditional theyyam artists to go there and worship the lord before they performed their art. They used to praise Lord Mahavishnu of thuluvannur Temple; but till recent times nobody knew where that temple was, as there was no such temple visible at all at Thuluvannur ! Today people from various places visit this recently renovated holy shrine to worship Sree Thuluvannurappan ( Lord Mahavishnu) for their well being.
